When you develop Android Apps, you will require a unique App icon for your Apps. The requirement of the App icon requires a different aspect of the image that fits different size of Android screen. The old method may require some photo processing skills such as using Photoshop or Illustrator.
To help out developers in this situation, Google provides a Web app called Android Asset Studio that allows you to just upload an image and adjust the size to generate correct size for you to import into your App and save time on messing around the App icon stuff.
Here is the procedure.
Import image or select an icon or text
You will need to import your image or select clipart or the text you would like to put in the App icon.
Edit your Icon
You can adjust the features of the App icon. Shape and Name are required to adjust for the square icon and round icon required by Google.
Generating the correct icons
Google requires you to use square and round App icon to fit different Android devices. This can be easily done in the settings.
For the square icon:
– Shape: Square
– Name: ic_launcher
For the round icon:
– Shape: Round
– Name: ic_launcher_round
Just press the download icon from the top-right to export the icons. Extract to the correct folder to let the Android app code to load up.
